LAW ENFORCEMENT
DNA Justice provides authorized law enforcement agencies access to a nonprofit DNA database built specifically to support investigative genetic genealogy. The database is populated by contributors who voluntarily choose to make their DNA available for authorized law enforcement investigations.
Agency access to DNA Justice is currently provided free to agencies.
How DNA Justice Supports Investigations
Unidentified Human Remains
DNA profiles associated with unidentified human remains can be compared against participating contributors to help generate investigative leads toward identification.
Violent Crime Investigations
Eligible crime-scene DNA profiles can be compared against participating contributors to identify genetic relationships that may provide leads for further investigation.
Investigative Genetic Genealogy
DNA Justice provides the matching database used as a resource in investigative genetic genealogy. Investigative analysis and conclusions remain the responsibility of the authorized agency and its investigative genetic genealogy practitioners.
Agency Access
1. Register
Create an agency account through the DNA Justice Agency Portal.
2. Submit Authorization
Provide a signed authorization letter confirming your law enforcement agency affiliation and authorization to access DNA Justice.
3. Verification and Approval
DNA Justice reviews the submitted authorization before approving agency access to the database.
Access to DNA Justice is currently provided for free to approved law enforcement agencies.
Reference Testing
Law enforcement agencies may request DNA from a person whose known biological relationship can help evaluate a potential genetic connection to case DNA. These individuals are known as reference testers.
Reference tester DNA is submitted to DNA Justice at the request of the investigating agency and can be used to help confirm or eliminate potential genetic relationships developed during an investigation.
Featured Cases
Law enforcement agencies working with DNA Justice may choose to feature an eligible investigation through the DNA Justice Featured Cases program. Featured cases can help increase public awareness and encourage additional voluntary DNA participation that may support the investigation.
